Beagle Bash & Potluck Picnic Set for August 26

Pack up your Beagles and a tasty human treat and head on out to Jean Applegate’s for CWBC’s annual summer picnic potluck and Beagle Bash on Sunday, August 26. The festivities begin at 11 a.m. with Beagle Games commencing at 11:30 a.m.

Planning is still underway, but expect the hounds to bob for hotdogs, and compete in events like a Beagle Dash and Treat Hunt. Does your Beagle have a special talent? If so, (s)he can show off in the Beagle Talent Show. Prizes will be given for all of the aforementioned events, and anything else we can think of (traveled the furthest, oldest Beagle, best Beagle/owner look alike – who knows what our social directors will come up with).

For us humans, bring a salad, dessert, or other goodie to go with club provided hamburgers, hot dogs, and drinks.

Beagles must be at least 6 months old and current on all vaccinations including rabies.

Hope to see you and your hounds there!

10th Annual Specialty is a Winner!

Ken Jorgenson and his team did a superb job mounting a flawless Specialty Show on Friday, July 20 at the Portland Expo Center. Fifty-one Beagles from Oregon, Washington, British Columbia, Arizona, Colorado and even one from the Czech Republic were entered. A complete list of winners is on the specialty webpage.

Carolyn Miller’s hand painted trophies provided a special memento for the show’s winners. Raffle Chair Sherry Hinkel offered a dazzling display of items that generated over $200 in ticket sales.  After conclusion of judging, exhibitors and guests enjoyed a tasty potluck coordinated by Hospitality Chair Gary Flightner.

Kudos to all for a great event!

Text Box: 2007-2008 Club Meetings to be Decided

At the June meeting, CWBC members voted to try meeting at different locations in 2007 and 2008. At the August meeting, members will determine five dates when meetings will be held at a standing location like the Village Inn where we’ve been having meetings, and five dates when meeting will be held at events like dog shows. In addition, we will have our two annual social events and meetings in December and August. Enclosed in this newsletter is a calendar of possible meeting dates and locations. Claudia Anderson provided this calendar to members at the July meeting along with her recommendations. Members are asked to review the calendar and come to the August meeting prepared to offer alternatives and/or approve the recommendations.

Because of a job change, current President Claudia Anderson is no longer able to meet on Tuesday nights. She has requested that meetings be moved to the 4th Monday or Thursday of the months when meetings are to be held at a standing location.

Board Appoints Nominating Committee

The CWBC Board appointed Ken Jorgenson, Sherry Hinkel, and Jayne Bailey to serve on this year’s nominating committee. Ellen Parr and Jean Applegate were named alternates in case any of the three appointed are unable to serve. This committee is charged with selecting nominees for the offices of president, vice-president, secretary, and treasurer, as well as Board positions 1 and 3, and then presenting these nominees to the membership at the August meeting. Officers are elected to one-year terms. Board members are elected to two-year terms. Any member wishing to be considered for nomination or wishing to suggest nominations, should contact one of the committee members.

At the September meeting, the floor will be open for any additional nominations. Elections will then be held at the annual meeting in October.

 SPECIALTY THANK YOU

I just wanted to send out a 'Thank You' to the Officers and Members of  CWBC for having the Hunt class in this years Specialty.  My only  regret is that there were not more entries for this class.  One of the  misunderstandings of the hunting beagle is the lack of conformation -  that they are a lesser dog - quite the opposite, for the hound to be  sound in the field he/she has to be sound on foot.  I believe my  beagle "Laddie" demonstrates this fact. Along with this, I have enjoyed attending the SPO's your club has held  over the past couple of years, and have seen some great qualities in
the hunting hounds from your club.  I hope to see more support in this  area in the future along with the hunting class at your specialty shows. Again thank you.
                                                                    Sincerely,
                                                                    Missy Fix
