CWBC sent $1,000 to help Carrie Davis in her fight with cancer. Members held a benefit CERF Clinic for Carrie at the Greater Clark Kennel Club show on Sunday, December 9. This event raised about $450 in CERF fees and donations. At the December CWBC meeting, members voted to augment that amount using some of the funds that were earned at the November CERF Clinic in Salem. The text of the thank you card that Carrie sent to the club follows:
Dear Friends at CWBC,
Thank you for the very generous check that you sent. I wish that you could have heard the audible gasp as I opened your card. It arrived on the same day that I received the first bill from my oncologist so the money will be put to work immediately. The current housing market has made this a very difficult year for us financially so your gift is very much appreciated!
Thank you for your kindness!
Carrie

The Canine Health Information Center, also known as CHIC, has recently added Beagles to the list of breeds that can earn a CHIC number. In order to get a CHIC number, Beagles must undergo at least 3 health tests and the results must be made public. Beagle owners may choose 3 of the following 4 tests to qualify:
1 - Hip Dysplasia evaluation by EITHER the OFA OR PennHIP
2 - CERF Eye Exam
3 - Health Elective consisting of EITHER:
a) OFA Cardiac Evaluation - exam by Boarded Cardiologist
OR
b) OFA Thyroid Evaluation - assay run by one of the approved labsThe Canine Health Information Center is a centralized canine health database jointly sponsored by the AKC/Canine Health Foundation (AKC/CHF) and the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA).
The CHIC website is located at www.caninehealthinfo.org. The website contains basic information on CHIC such as its mission and goals, and maintains a listing of the participating breeds and approved breed specific test protocols. The CHIC website also provides a search engine to locate dogs that have been issued CHIC numbers, their test dates, and the results of their tests.
