Beagle Bash & Potluck Picnic set for

August 22

Pack up your Beagles and a tasty human treat and head on out to Mike and Natalie Shaffer’s for CWBC’s annual summer picnic potluck and Beagle Bash on Saturday, August 22. The festivities begin at 11 a.m. with Beagle Games commencing at 11:30 a.m.

Planning is still underway, but expect the hounds to bob for hotdogs, and compete in events like a Beagle Dash and Treat Hunt. Does your Beagle have a special talent? If so, (s)he can show off in the Beagle Talent Show. Prizes will be given for all of the aforementioned events, and anything else we can think of (traveled the furthest, oldest Beagle, best Beagle/owner look alike – who knows what our social directors will come up with).

For us humans, bring a salad, dessert, or other goodie to go with club provided hamburgers, hot dogs, and drinks.

Beagles must be at least 6 months old and current on all vaccinations including rabies. Hope to see you and your hounds there!

Twelfth Annual Specialty is a Big Success!

In a year when many dog shows are seeing fewer entries, CWBC was fortunate to actually have an increase in entries over last year. Fifty- six Beagles vied for honors at CWBC’s specialty show on Friday, July 17.

Taking the top prize—Best of Breed—for the second year in a  row was 13” CH. Jabrwoki’s Le Jazz Hot, owned by Betsy Manifold of California and Shawn Robblee of Arizona. In addition to those two states, Beagles came from Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia to strut their stuff.

Show Chair Carolyn Miller guided a capable team to present a very successful show. Kim Stewart produced a beautiful and very profitable raffle, earning $279! The Club received many compliments on the trophies organized by Claudia Anderson, and on Janet Armstrong’s and Gary Flightner’s top notch hospitality. Ring Steward Ellen Parr ably assisted the judges and kept things running smoothly in the ring.

Kudos to all for a great event!

President’s Circle Awards

At the July 18th meeting, President Claudia Anderson presented the following President’s Circle Awards

Carolyn Miller

Our thanks to Carolyn Miller for stepping into the void and taking on the chairing of our annual Specialty show. While each year CWBC sponsors several events and activities, the Specialty is undoubtedly our highest profile event. It showcases our club to the show Beagle community, many of whom travel hundreds of miles to attend. It is a team effort but ultimately the responsibility rests on the shoulders of the chair. This President’s Circle Award is a token of our appreciation to Carolyn and her strong shouldering of this year’s show.

Ken Jorgenson

This year for the first time, CWBC participated in the AKC Canine Experience, a joint effort of several allbreed and specialty clubs to help educate the public about the sport of dogs and the different breeds of pure-bred dogs. We could not have done this without Ken Jorgenson’s dedication in coordinating CWBC’s booth. He gathered educational materials, including a video of Beagles hunting rabbit, that were displayed at our club booth. He set up and manned the booth for 8 hours on a Saturday with only a couple of brief respites when other club members covered for him. His efforts enabled CWBC to meet one of three AKC requirements to hold our specialty show next year. We give this President’s Circle Award in recognition of Ken’s efforts and contribution to our successful participation in the AKC Canine Experience
