In January, Therapy Dogs Incorporated certified Two-Spot and handler Pat Marlow as a therapy dog team.
One of Two-Spot’s first official duties was to visit CWBC member Sherry Hinkel during her 11-day stay in the hospital. As is evidenced by the accompanying photo, Two-Spot’s visit brought a smile to Sherry’s face. She also attracted a lot of attention from the nurses, and was requested to stop by and visit with some other patients on Sherry’s floor. Two- Spot is also certified as a service dog for Pat. Shortly after visiting Sherry, Two-Spot accompanied Pat for a two-day stay in the hospital while Pat had a medical procedure. Pat’s husband Duck also spent the time in the room with Pat so Two-Spot had someone to take care of her needs while she was helping Pat. Two-Spot proved to be very popular at this hospital, too, and was invited to visit the pediatrics floor. Pat is planning to take Two-Spot to do just that once she’s fully recovered from her medical procedure.

As a lot of you know I was in the hospital recently for 11 days being treated for Advanced Pulmonary Hypertension. Two Spot, who is proudly owned and loved by Pat and Duck Marlow, recently earned her Therapy Dog Title, so she came to visit me. I had told the nurses that Two Spot was coming and she was a Huge Success. They couldn't get over what a sweet, CALM, little girl she is. Since I was missing my own dogs so much, she really cheered me up. You couldn't ask for a sweeter or better behaved Beagle.
As I said earlier, I have Advanced Pulmonary Hypertension. I am on 24hr/day oxygen, and believe me that isn't a lot of fun. I am also receiving Remoduline being pumped directly to my heart 24/7. I was very weak when I left the hospital and am still using a walker to get around the house, but I am getting stronger every day. I am sleeping in a hospital bed sitting almost straight up because breathing is too hard otherwise. I want to thank everyone for their cute cards and especially the visits. The visits meant a LOT to me. I am hoping to be able to make it to the March show in Albany. Believe me, I am not giving up going to dog shows. I am still planning on being Show Chair for the CWBC Show in July, so I hope to see you all there.
Sherry
Editor’s Note: Ten days after Sherry was released from the hospital, she had to return because she was experiencing congestive heart failure. Fortunately, she responded well to medication and was able to return home after a couple of days. She needs our continued prayers and well-wishes so that we can indeed see her at our specialty in July.
