BEAGLES AT THE MUSEUM
Pat Marlow (center) and Janet Armstrong (right) coordinated a Beagle Meet and Greet at the Pearson Air Museum in Vancouver, WA.
At 10:35 hours on May 6th, a call for beagle reinforcements went out from the Pearson Air Museum at Fort Vancouver to all local beagle organizations. Snoopy was scheduled to land May 16th on his trusty Sopwith Camel as part of a celebration of World War I vintage aircraft and a presentation of the “Snoopy as the WW1 Flying Ace” traveling exhibit from the CharlesM. Schultz Museum in California.
Beagles were needed for support and celebration – lots of beagles.
The Beagle Has Landed . . .
Or was it the Sopwith Camel this time?
Abby and Mia were on the way to the beach with Mom and Dad. No help there. Oh, dear! Who could muster the troops on such short
notice while they were away on shore leave? Enter Pat and Duck Marlow of Mtn. Brook Beagles, who took the lead and created a festive celebration of the best of beagledom in conjunction with the exhibit opening. Pat scouted the site, commissioned an informational brochure for the event, which she and Claudia Anderson created and Jayne Bailey delivered. Pat and Duck also set up the booth.
Could Snoopy’s nemesis, the evil Baron Manfred von Richthofen, be hiding somewhere out in the fields? A plane just like his was on display in the museum. Enter Cascade Beagle Rescue. Rescue beagles with red scarves searched the grounds. No Baron would get by them. No signs of trouble any where – just lots of fun and great fields for games and happy dances.
CW Beagle Club dog recruits guarded the Pearson Museum entrance offering beagle PR in the form of kisses, petting, and photo ops to kids of
all ages. With Two Spot, the real-life service beagle, and three other show dogs on display, Pat and Duck were able to demonstrate what the breed standard looks like and the differences between the two size classifications. Differences between the show dogs and the rescued field beagles were evident.
The day was perfect – not too hot or cold. Everyone had lots of sunshine, shade, and cool refreshment. If one of Snoopy’s human compatriots needed a drink, Snoopy’s favorite beverage --- a cold mug (make that paper cup) of root beer-- was available just for the asking.
No cursing or confrontations at this beagle celebration, just lots of families sharing their love of beagles and learning more about the breed, the vintage airplanes, and the works of Charles M. Schultz.
Jayne Bailey in her Snoopy pajama outfit and Beagle Max brought along a Flying Ace uniform that they shared for informal photos. Pat and Duck’s dogs stood at attention on display tables for several hours meeting and greeting old and new friends. The day went really well, and all of us who participated had a really good time. Janet Armstrong, Abby and Mia’s mom
