WARNING!!
Recent internet postings warn pet owners to beware the use of cocoa mulch that contains cacao bean shells which can be toxic to dogs. Ingestion can cause illness and even death.
According to Hershey’s, one of the manufactures of mulch made from cacao bean shells, “It is true that studies have shown that 50% of the dogs that eat Cocoa Mulch can suffer physical harm to a variety of degrees (depending on each individual dog). However, 98% of all dogs won't eat it.”
And what 2% of the dogs will eat it? I’m guessing Beagles.
I’m thinking it best to keep chocolate out of the flower beds. There’s enough of the dangerous stuff in my kitchen already.
