Are You Crafty?

Crafty CWBC members may want to start planning projects to benefit the combined CWBC and National Beagle Club Specialties in October 2010. There will be several venues where people can donate items that will raise funds for these events and for Beagle Rescue. Needlepoint, fabric creations, wood art, painting, sculpture – any kind of craft or art that depicts a beagle, can be used for a beagle, or is reflective of the Pacific Northwest would be a welcome addition to any of the following fundraising activities:

CWBC Silent Auction – This event will be Monday and Tuesday, October 4 & 5. People will have an opportunity to bid on desired items by writing their name on a bidding paper placed next to the item. Silent auction items may be individual pieces or a variety of pieces collected in a basket or other container. Items will sell for any where from $10 to several hundred dollars – depending on high the bidding goes. Each item will have a minimum bid posted. Proceeds from the CWBC Silent Auction will be attributed to CWBC’s specialty expenses.

NBC Raffle – The raffle will be ongoing during the National specialty, starting on Wednesday, October 6 and concluding about noon on Friday, October 8. People will buy tickets that they can put in bags that correspond to the various items being raffled. At a designated time on Friday, the raffle coordinator will have tickets drawn from the bags and matched with the buyer holding the other half of the ticket. While there will be some big ticket items on the raffle table, most raffle items will be valued at under $50. All money raised in the NBC Raffle will go towards defraying expenses for the National Specialty.

State Baskets – Running concurrently with the NBC raffle, the state basket silent auction will feature baskets or other containers that have been created to reflect the state of their contributors. Beagle enthusiasts from each state work together to collect items, allowing many people to donate small items that add up to one big value. Each state has a volunteer who coordinates the collection of items and packages them in the basket. It is not unusual for these baskets to be very large and for the winning bid to be several hundred dollars. But equally valuable, are smaller baskets with values in the $50-100 range that are easier to transport home and allow people who can’t afford to spend several hundred dollars to participate.

BRFOA (Beagle Rescue Foundation of America) Auction – Traditionally the National Beagle Club Specialty hosts a dinner and auction to benefit BRFOA. This year the BRFOA event will be Thursday, October 7. BRFOA is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing funds, mostly for spaying and neutering, to various Beagle Rescue organizations throughout the United States. Contributions to the BRFOA auction may be tax deductible. Some of the items are in a silent auction and some are offered in a live auction. Items in this event have a wide range of value – from under $20 to several hundred dollars.

Hospitality Bags – While this is not a fundraiser, we will be giving hospitality bags to all exhibitors. When CWBC hosted the Nationals in 2003, we had a member who made magnets that were put into the bags. We will make between 250-300 bags. So any one who could craft 250-300 items that can fit into a bag could certainly contribute to the Nationals that way.
