There are many reasons a Beagle comes to rescue. Some are sad stories and the Beagle truly is “rescued” from an unsafe environment. Some are strays and cannot be reconnected to their families despite attempts to find their owners. Some are surrendered by their owners when circumstances make it difficult or impossible for their families to keep them. Rescue Beagles are almost always adults, although occasionally a puppy finds its way into rescue. Often, not much is known about a Rescue Beagle’s past, including parentage. Who chooses a Rescue Beagle? Someone who wants to help a Beagle in need. Someone who wants to know the size and temperament that is evident in an older dog but not usually in a puppy. Someone looking for a lower initial cost of a Beagle (although the initial cost of a dog is only a small part of what it costs to keep a dog over its lifetime). Someone who looks at the picture of a rescue Beagle or meets him for the first time and just knows – “Yep, that’s the one for me!”

What’s “Re-Home”? How’s it different from Rescue? While both “re-homed” and “rescue” Beagles are usually adults, “Re-Home” Beagles are offered by their breeders. They come usually with pedigrees (records of parentage and family lines), usually AKC papers, and the invaluable knowledge and support of the breeder. Responsible breeders take their dogs back if at all possible if their owners can no longer keep them, so sometimes Re-Home Beagles are Beagles that have been returned to their breeder. Sometimes, breeders decide a dog isn’t working in the breeding program, or didn’t develop into the show dog expected, or is just ready to retire and live a life of luxury as a beloved pet. Who chooses a Re-Home Beagle? Someone who wants to know the size and temperament that is evident in an older dog but not usually in a puppy. Someone who wants to know the Beagle’s background. Someone looking for a lower initial cost of a Beagle (more than Rescue, but less than a puppy and again, the initial cost of a dog is only a small part of what it costs to keep a dog over its lifetime). Someone who looks at the picture of a Re-Home Beagle or meets him for the first time and just knows – “Yep, that’s the one for me!”

When you are ready to buy a beagle puppy, you want to get one from a reputable breeder. The club members on the referral list have to pass inspections of their homes and subscribe to the clubs Code of Ethics before we will refer them. They also will stand behind the puppies they sell to you to ensure you get a good, healthy, quality puppy. Please don't buy from a pet shop . If you are ready to add a lovely beagle baby to your home give us a call and we can refer you to one of our club members that has puppies.
